Aviary
An only child raised in bucolic Eastern Washington, I often set up my father's goose decoys in the front yard to attract birds as my playmates. For the past 22 years I have covered bird decoys in dressmaker’s sequins, emphasizing the patterns of the various species’ field markings as I remember them, in a kind of alternate taxidermy. Through this avian archive I have explored obvious themes of species loss and climate change, but also more personal ideas of sexuality, gender, civic participation and the intrinsic value of craft. Please inquire as to availability for commission or check etsy for current inventory.
